Cricket's biggest carnival - the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction - got underway at Bangalore on Saturday, with 353 players going under the hammer and a total of USD 90 million to be spent.
The first round began with nine players, starting with the prolific Indian opener Gautam Gambhir who wasn't retained by his former employer Delhi Daredevils. And the first bang of the hammer was heard when Gautam Gambhir was bought for a whopping USD 2.4 millon by Shahrukh's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), tagging him as sold.
Sachin to play T20 for India after 4 years
Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who played his last Twenty20 International match for India four years back, will play in India’s one-off T20 International with South Africa in Durban on Sunday.
Tendulkar, who generally keeps himself away from playing T20 cricket for India, took the decision of playing in the shortest version of the game for India after South African cricket board requested him to take part in the match which has been arranged at the venue to celebrate the 150th anniversary of arrival of Indians.

The match will also be the last international outing for iconic South African player Makhaya Ntini, who decided to retire from international cricket a couple of months back.
Incidentally, Sachin played just one T20 International for India against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2006 in which he scored 12-ball 10 runs.
