Misbah leads Pakistan to two-wicket win

Misbah-ul-Haq scored a brilliant unbeaten 93 off 91 balls to lead Pakistan to a narrow two-wicket win over hosts New Zealand in the fourth ODI at Napier on Tuesday.

With this win Pakistan leads the six-match series 2-1.

New Zealand posted 262 for 7 in its 50 overs after opting to bat first. In its chase, Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals before Misbah held his nerves to win the contest for Pakistan in 49 overs.

Earlier, James Franklin continued a golden run of form with a third half century in four one-day international innings to guide New Zealand to 262 for seven.

The left-hander, who had scores of 72 not out, 98 not out and 17 not out in his previous three innings in India last December, top-scored with 62 to help arrest New Zealand's mid-innings slump at McLean Park.

The hosts had romped to 40 without loss but lost three wickets for four runs and then slumped to 79 for five before Franklin's 62-run partnership with Brendon McCullum (37) and a stand of 64 runs with Nathan McCullum (53 not out) arrested the slide.

Franklin was only brought into the side after Jesse Ryder, who injured a finger while playing for Wellington at the weekend, withdrew before play began.

In its chase Pakistan was well served by opener Ahmad Shahzad (42), but soon slipped to 84 for 3. Younus Khan (42) shared a crucial 89-run fourth wicket stand with Misbah (93: 91b, 7x4, 1x6) to revive the chase. Abdul Razzaq (23) provided some spark late in the order. In the end Sohail Tanvir hit three boundaries in his knock of 14 to help settle the issue.
